COBIS Games Abu Dhabi 2014 - Basketball Rules
All Basketball games will be held at the First Gulf Bank Arena, Abu Dhabi.
GAME RULES
Teams will be 5 v 5 mixed, full court. At least 2 players from each gender must be on court at all times. Squads can be up to 15 players.
The court will be a full-court, reduced size.
Each game is started by a jump ball in the centre circle and begins when the ball is tapped in by one of the jumpers.
Players may be substituted at any time on a dead ball; ‘Rolling-subs’.
A basket from the field counts as two points and a basket from a free throw counts as one point.
After a basket, the opponents will be given the ball to make a throw in from any point behind the baseline.
A Size 5 ball shall be used.
Teams to wear numbered shirts or bibs (please bring them with you if you have them).

VIOLATIONS
If any violation is committed, the non-offending team should take a throw in from the side line. Violations Include: Deliberately kicking the ball or striking it with a fist. Knocking the ball out of the side lines. Dribbling with two hands on the ball at once or letting the ball come to rest on two hands then continuing to dribble (Double Dribble). Running with the ball (travelling). ‘Carrying’ is also not permitted. FOULS A personal foul involves personal contact with an opponent, if this occurs in the act of shooting two free throws are allowed, otherwise it is side-line ball to the opposing team. Once a player has 5 personal fouls he/ she can take no further part in the game. COACHES AND OFFICIALS The official shall be a court referee, who shall be assisted by a scorekeeper and a timekeeper. |
COMPETITION FORMAT
10 minutes warm-up time on the court per team. POOL GAMES - 4 pools playing on 3 courts. 8 pool games per court. 5 minutes each half and 1 min for half time - 30 seconds optional Time Out (TO) per team. 3 minutes change over per game. Teams will play in 4 pools each of 4 teams – ‘round-robin’. Top 2 teams go into ‘Main’ competition; bottom 2 teams go into the ‘Plate’ competition. Scoring system: Win = 2 points, draw = 1 point, loss = 0 points . Teams are ranked based on number of accumulated points, if 2 teams are equal on points then the following is used to determine the higher ranked team:
Total time for pool games - (approx. 2.5 hours) 1 hour break FINALS – - cup competition and plate competition - same game timings as above - 30 minutes results and presentations |
