COBIS Games Abu Dhabi 2014 - Swimming Rules
The swimming races will be held at the Armed Forces Officers' Club 50m pool.
To help with the smooth running of the meet, you are required to submit the name of representatives for each individual event and also relay participants. This should be completed and emailed to the meet manager no later than one week before the championships on 23 May 2014. Changes to your team list must be communicated by 12:00 noon on the day of the meet to the meet manager. Meet Manager: Simon Pickering - [email protected]
Each school must put forward 4 swimmers per individual event, 2 boys and 2 girls. Boys and girls will swim in separate events.
The length of individual races is 50m. Relays will be 4 lengths x 50m each competitor.
All 15 members of the team must compete at least a relay or an individual event. Any remaining available slots can be filled by any member of the team so long as the swimmer is of the correct gender.
Start of the Race: the starter will blow a whistle for swimmers to come to the blocks, the starter will then say ‘take your marks’, the starter will then blow the whistle for a second time to indicate the start of the race.

Should a competitor false start twice he/she will be disqualified. We will demonstrate this at the start of the event.
Fly, Freestyle and Breaststroke races will begin with a dive, backstroke races begin in the water. Medley relay to include all four different strokes in the order of Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly & Crawl.
There will also be a freestyle relays for boys and girls.
All swimmers must stay in their lanes, should an official witness an incident of crossing lanes or impeding a swimmer this will result in disqualification.
Stroke judges to use disqualification for an incorrect stroke at their discretion.
Correct finish for each stroke.
The fastest 8 swimmers and relay teams will go through to the final.

Officials/Referees
1x Meet manager & 1x Referee 1 x Starter –They will indicate to the swimmers to set up, start the race and indicates if a false start has occurred. The starter has the power to disqualify a swimmer for false starts. 16 x Officials/timekeepers – They will be stationed at the finishing point of each lane. They will be required to record the swimmers time in their assigned lane and oversee any lane violations. 1 x Chief time keepers – One official shall take all the swimmers recorded times from the timekeepers and relay this information back to the second official at the results area. The second official shall display this information and update any points system. They will also run a ‘back-up’ watch. |
Organisation
The swimming pool is 50m in length – number of lanes is 8. In the event of two swimmers finishing with the same time a swim off will decide who will advance to the final (8th place only). Lane draw will be determined pre-event – schools will remain in those lanes for all heats. Schools are responsible for getting their own swimmers behind the starting blocks ready for racing 3 heats before they compete. |
